This project was to design a garden for a newly built suburban house in Cowes on the Isle of Wight with a sloping garden facing north.
The owners could not spend much time working on the garden which was grass with patches of heavy clay soil.
Building a raised deck lifted ground level to the sun and provided views over the Solent. Planting around the deck provided a more natural look to blend it into the garden.
A difficult corner was utilised with a playhouse ship made by local carpenter Paul Pullen. Low maintenance fruit trees were planted in the sloping lawn.
Although the garden faces north the house faces south but the patio and conservatory needed plants to soften the hard edges. Sun loving and drought resistant pot plants decorate the patio while a simple border was designed to enhance the conservatory.
