Garden Design - Seaside Garden

Seaside gardens and salt tolerant gardens

Seaside gardens are often exposed to sun, sea and wind so plant types can be limited, plantings sparse and features form an major part of the design mix. Seaside gardens can be the result of years of beachcombing and the collecting of unusual bits and bobs to give the garden a quirky theme. Others are more sparse with a few carefully chosen features. All have a common theme of pebbles (small, large or both), wood and plants.

  • Costs: if you are a keen beachcomber these are low but if purchasing instant features be prepared to pay!
  • Maintenance: low
  • Advantages: look great in the right setting and can be added to as you acquire interesting bits and pieces.
  • Disadvantages: can look staged.
